Steps to Prepare Your Wall For
Linentree 3D Peel and Stick Wall Tile
Preparing the installation surface is very important. A poorly prepared wall can harm the adherence and durability of Smart Tiles.
The surface must be cleaned before starting the installation of a kitchen or bathroom peel and stick backsplash. But if you have a non-recommended wall, you may have some work to do.
A well-prepared surface is necessary for a flawless installation. A poorly prepared wall can hinder the adhesion of Linentree's 3D Peel and Stick Wall Tiles, losing its durability over a shorter period.
Simple surfaces must be cleaned before installation, however, if you have a non-conventional wall, you may need some advice.
Cleaning the Wall Before Installing Linentree's 3D Peel and Stick Wall Tiles
Dust and dirt will prevent anything from sticking permanently on your wall. Just like how a scotch-tape might have difficulty adhering itself to a sandy table. So to fix this, get yourself a clean wall or start scrubbing yours! No matter what surface it is, we have confidence that our product will adhere, given the right conditions.
Any common degreaser that includes trisodium phosphate (TSP), is one of the best cleaners in our opinion.
Proceed with installation only after your wall is bone-dry, or use a kitchen towel to damp out subtle remainders of water.
Non-Recommended Surfaces
Not one house out there in the world is similar, there might be those that have special walls. So here are some tips for preparing your wall before installation.
1.Preparing a Brick or Stone Wall
Never attempt to install our 3D Peel and Stick Wall Tiles on a brick or stone wall, even if it's painted. The unevenness of the surface traps air bubbles which becomes a major factor for failure.
What you can do is to buy an acrylic panel at a hardware store, get it cut specifically to scale, and install the 3D Peel and Stick Wall Tile directly on it. Then, install this panel on the brick or stone wall with screws or glue.
2.Preparing a Plain Gypsum or Plaster Wall
Gypsum or plaster walls have to be filled and leveled before attempting to apply our tiles. When the wall is completely cured, installation may begin!
3.Preparing Plywood
Vastly similar to the directions for a Gypsum or Plaster wall. Plywood will have to be covered with a coat of primer of paint before installation. This is to ensure that the porous surface of the plywood doesn't affect the durability of our tiles.
4.Preparing a Stucco Wall
The bumpy texture of stucco walls will definitely affect our tiles. We suggest that you remove the texture completely, to ensure a smooth and sticky 3D tilel.
For brushed walls, simple sanding will help modify the texture to be suitable for the application.
After all these modifications, a coat of primer will be needed. Wait for it to dry before installation.
Why do we use Primer and Paint Before Installation?
Primer helps make unfinished surfaces like gypsum, plaster, plywood uniform with no pores. When the primer is applied, it is of utmost importance that you wait till it's completely dry. Primer typically takes 72 hours to completely dry.
Paint takes a much longer time to dry completely, typically 21 days.
